§ 32.02. ACTING MAYOR.

  • (A) Whenever the Mayor is absent or going to be absent from the city, is ill, or injured, he or she may delegate a member of the Common Council as Acting Mayor, with all the powers of that office. The Mayor may exercise this power for a maximum of 15 days in any 60-day period, pursuant to IC 36-4-5-8, or for any longer period as may be allowed by statute from time to time.
    (B) In case of serious illness or total disability of the Mayor for a period in excess of 15 days, the President Pro-Tempore of the Common Council shall serve as Acting Mayor pursuant to the provisions of IC 36-4-5-8.
    (C) The term of the Acting Mayor shall not exceed the term of any such illness or disability of the Mayor or that period allowed by IC 36-4-5-8.
