§ 35.025. ESTABLISHMENT; AUTHORITY.

  • (A) There is established a Board of Public Works and Safety within the executive branch. The Board shall be the chief administrative body of the city and shall have control of the operations of the following departments which are hereby established:
    (1) Under the Board of Public Works and Safety acting as a Board of Public Safety:
    (a) Police Department.
    (b) Fire Department.
    (2) Under the Board of Public Works and Safety acting as a Board of Public Works: Street Department.
    (3) Under the Board of Public Works and Safety acting as a Board of Sanitation pursuant to IC36-9-23-4:
    (a) Sanitation Department.
    (b) Solid Waste Department.
    (4) Community Services Department.
    (B) The Mayor by delegation from the Board of Public Works and Safety shall have control of the day-to-day operations of the above departments. The Board of Public Works and Safety is delegated all authority for the approval of claims, except those claims which are to be approved by the governing board of a department or agency as designated by statute.
